Marijuana is currently illegal to possess, grow, distribute or sell in Italy. In 2016 Parliament began debating a law which would allow adults over the age of 18 to possess up to 15g at home and 5g outdoors. Currently people caught possessing small amounts of marijuana may receive a small fine. Those in possession of large amounts of marijuana may be charged with trafficking and sentenced to long prison terms.
