In December 2014, the German government announced a new rule which would require German companies to fill 30% of their board seats with women. In Italy female board places increased from 8.2% to 22.1% after the government introduced gender diversity laws. In Norway 35.5% of boards contain women directors which is the highest percentage in the world.
